The Reverend Father Ted Leenerts

Father Ted was born in San Francisco and raised in a military family, primarily in Nebraska and Arizona. He attended Brophy Prep, a Jesuit High School for men, and graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Aeronautical Technology. Father Ted then served as a Navy pilot and then as an airline pilot, where his call into ministry was fostered. Returning to school, he earned a Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology at Pepperdine University; a Master of Divinity (MDiv) and a Master of Theology (Th.M.) at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA; a Doctor of Ministry (D. Min) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston; and a Graduate Certificate of Anglican Studies from the Nashotah House Seminary. Father Ted’s ministry career began in the Presbyterian Church as a Pastor and as a Police Chaplain for the Newport Beach Police Department. Later, returning to active duty as a Navy Chaplain, Fr. Ted served as Battalion, Air Wing, and Combat Critical Care Chaplain with the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, CA. He is also a Board-Certified Hospital Chaplain and is the founder of a missionary aviation organization serving the Native Americans on reservations throughout the Southwest. Father Ted was ordained in the Anglican Catholic Church as a Deacon by Bishop Stephen Scarlett, Diocese of the Holy Trinity, in June 2015 at St. Matthews Church in Newport Beach, CA, and to the priesthood in October 2018. Having recently relocated to Knoxville, he resides with his wife, Carol, and their Yellow Lab, Gracie. He is an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast, a missionary, a pilot, and enjoys traveling and RVing.
