Spiritual Formation

Upon baptism, every Christian enters into a life-long process of transformation into the image of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. The primary means of this transformation is our regular participation in the Holy Eucharist, where Christ Himself feeds us. In addition, at Holy Cross we provide many other avenues for the Holy Spirit to work in our daily lives.

Morning and Evening Prayer

Morning and Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer are hallmarks of the Anglican spiritual tradition. Through these services of psalmody, Scripture reading, and ancient prayers, Christians become saturated in God’s Word and learn how to pray with the Universal Church. In this audio tutorial, a priest explains how to pray the Daily Offices. When unable to come to Holy Cross, the Book of Common Prayer and Cradle of Prayer are excellent resources for reciting the Morning and Evening Prayer.

Adult Anglican Formation Class

This class is for adults that are new to the Anglican tradition. We cover the history, doctrine, and worship of the Anglican church, as well as an overview of Scripture and spiritual disciplines. The class meets throughout the year as needed and fulfills the requirement for adults to be baptized and/or confirmed.

Confession

From the time of the Apostles, Christians have been confessing their sins and receiving forgiveness (James 5:16). This is more than a therapy session. It’s a means through which God’s love and mercy meets us personally for our good. As Anglicans, we continue this ancient practice in three ways. First, we confess our sins personally and daily as we pray Morning and Evening Prayer. Second, we confess our sins publicly at each liturgy of Holy Communion. Finally, we have the privilege of confessing to a priest privately (John 20:23). If you would like to schedule a time of confession and absolution, please contact Fr. Scott.
